Mana Party seeks constitution change

9:22 pm on 5 August 2011

The Mana Party holds its first annual general meeting on Saturday and top of its agenda will be changing its constitution to enable candidates to be selected to stand in November's election.

The Hone Harawira-led party has billed itself as a movement to represent the poor and the marginalised.

Mr Harawira says they will be deciding whether to stand in the Maori seats, which general seats the Mana Party wants to target, and discussing potential candidates.

The hui in Auckland will also prioritise its policies that cover the Treaty of Waitangi, health, education, employment and the cost of living.

Mana Party co-vice president Annette Sykes says those policies are still being refined as it seeks members' views.

Ms Sykes says the meeting will discuss working with the Labour and Green parties, but it will not be a focus of the hui.

The election will be held on 26 November.
