New Maori Trustee welcomed

The new Maori Trustee, Jamie Tuuta, has been welcomed into the job at a ceremony at Pipitea Marae in Wellington.

Mr Tuuta, of Ngati Mutunga, has been appointed for five years by the Minister of Māori Affairs, Pita Sharples - who says

he's an outstanding example of a new generation of Maori leaders.

He was welcomed on Tuesday by staff and supporters from Taranaki with a powhiri at Pipitea Marae in Wellington.

The Maori Trustee administers or manages about 100-thousand hectares of Maori freehold land and his role is to protect and build the assets of Maori.
