A long-held dream is about to come true for Tai Tokerau's waka tohunga, Hekenukumai Busby.
He has found a sponsor for his biggest waka voyage yet - a trip to Rapanui, Easter Island.
Te Puia - the New Zealand Maori Arts & Crafts Institute - has agreed to cover the cost of sending two voyaging waka to the island in a year.
It is a trip Mr Busby, 79, has been dreaming of since he built the first voyaging waka, Te Aurere many years ago.
He revived the arts of tarai waka and navigation by the stars and has sailed to every major island in the Pacific triangle except Rapanui in the past 20 years.
