Few submissions so far on foreign vessels inquiry

6:54 pm on 20 September 2011

The head of the ministerial inquiry into the use of foreign fishing vessels in local waters says the public submissions mailbag is light at the moment.

But Paul Swain says he expects more opinions and points of view as the 7 October deadline for written submissions draws closer.

If there's the demand, he says, there will be an opportunity to attend public or private hearings in Auckland, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch.

Mr Swain says it's known there are a number of people interested making submissions.

The panel is due to report back to the Government on 24 February 2012.
