A Maori academic is urging whanau to think about publishing their family histories.
Hone Sadler, a lecturer in Maori Studies at Auckland University, is writing a book based on evidence he gave to the Waitangi Tribunal at last year's Ngapuhi sovereignty hearings.
He says stories told to the Tribunal will be tucked away in the archives - but stories turned into books reach more people.
Mr Sadler says it's easier for him as an academic to publish than it is for many people, but whanau with stories to tell should sound out a few publishers.
