Head of Waikato-Tainui executive wants apology

The head of the Waikato-Tainui executive, Tukoroirangi Morgan, wants a public apology from the chair of the tribe's parliament, following a High Court decision on his status.

In court last week, Justice Keane ruled Mr Morgan should remain in the position and that a vote to expel him in August was insufficient.

The judge quashed the motion that 30 Marae could vote Mr Morgan out, ruling instead that it would require the support of at least 33 pa.

Mr Morgan took legal action after the head of the parliament, Tania Martin, said there had been enough votes to disqualify him. He had always maintained that he was still executive chair.

Mr Morgan says that now that he has received clarification from the High Court, he expects an apology from Mrs Martin and her supporters who wanted to get rid of him.
