The Maori King has met a South African monarch to discuss health, welfare, cultures and trade.
King Molotlegi, of the Bafokeng Kingdom, held a hui on Thursday with King Tuheitia at Turangawaewae Marae - the home of the Kingitanga movement.
The South African royal is here to watch Rugby World Cup games and made a special request through the Prime Minister to meet the Maori King.
Bafokeng is regarded as the richest tribe in Africa, thanks to the world's second-largest platinum deposit.
Chair of the Waikato-Tainui executive Tukoroirangi Morgan says the kingdom is affluent and influential - aspirations shared by Maori.
He says King Molotlegi wanted to know how he could strengthen the fabric of his society while maintaining strong cultural beliefs - similar to what Maori are attempting to do with Whanau Ora.
Mr Morgan says the meeting was an opportunity for the South African and Maori tribal figureheads to explore commercial and social welfare exchanges.
