Pita Paraone is attempting to get back into Parliament by standing for New Zealand First in the Whangarei electorate in next month's general election.

He represented the party as an MP from 2002 through to 2008 in the Pakuranga seat.

The Northland-born politician says his policies will address a range of issues, including unemployment and the demand for affordable housing.

Mr Paraone has a background in the public service - holding several management roles that involved Maori economic and social development.

His tribal affiliations are Ngatihine, Ngatiwhatua and Te Rarawa.
