An opinion poll shows half of the people questioned in the Te Tai Tokerau seat feel their whanau is worse off under the current government.

Respondents also say education is the most important election issue, followed by employment, whanau and Treaty claims.

Monday's Te Karere Digipoll puts the Mana Party leader, Hone Harawira, out in front as the lead candidate - on 42% support for the electorate vote.

Labour's Kelvin Davis is close behind on 35%, and the Maori Party's Waihoroi Shortland has 20%.

The poll, which surveyed 400 Maori roll voters, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9%.
