Sealord chair says company is more than just a corporate

Sealord's newly appointed chair says the fishing company is much more than just a commercially driven corporate.

Mataanuku Mahuika says being half owned by Maori interests means guardianship and sustainability is an essential part of how it does business.

Mr Mahuika says the company is poised for growth following several challenging years of struggling with a high exchange rate, rising fuel costs and total allowable catch restrictions.

He says the company is also in the fortunate position of being owned by two experienced fishing businesses - Japanese fishing company Nissui and Aotearoa Fisheries Limited.

Mr Mahuika says that will allow the company to build business plans over a longer period of time.
