Maori Language Awards in Rotorua

The annual Maori Language Awards have been taking place on Friday evening at the Energy and Events Centre in Rotorua.

There are 27 finalists vying for awards in 15 categories, which include contributions in areas such as local government, education and the community.

The Maori Language Commission assesses the merits of all the entries.

Chief Executive Glenis Philip-Barbara says she continues to be impressed by the range of initiatives, which showcase creativity and innovation in the re-vitalisation and promotion of the Maori language.
