Health scholarships for Maori

6:33 am on 29 November 2011

Maori are being encouraged to apply for a batch of health scholarships.

The awards are selected by the Henry Rongomau Bennett Foundation, which is named for the first ever fully qualified Maori psychiatrist in Aotearoa.

Worth between $1000 and $5000 per year, the scholarships are aimed at boosting the number of Maori in the health workforce.

There are also targetted scholarships for people who want to work with whanau addicted to alcohol and other drugs, including methamphetamine ("P").

Applications close on 20 January. They are managed through Te Rau Matatini, a Maori health workforce development organisation.
