Workshop aims to address whanau concerns

7:21 pm on 30 November 2011

The Families Commission is hosting a wananga or a workshop in Auckland on Thursday to address the concerns of vulnerable whanau and tamariki.

The commission has brought together a number of well known speakers such as former MP John Tamihere, and academics Dr Leonie Pihama and Manuka Henare to talk about how Maori cultural knowledge can be used as a source of innovation and creativity.

The wananga, being held at Te Mahurehure marae in Point Chevalier, will also be the place where a publication will be launched: Matiro Whakamua-Looking over the Horizon, which is a collection of conversations with 11 powerful women, who articulate strongly their advocacy for whanau.
