An Auckland tertiary institute that delivers its programmes in te reo Maori has received a glowing report from the Qualifications Authority, saying the increase in Maori speakers is an excellent outcome for Maori society.

Te Wananga Takiura O Nga Kura Kaupapa Maori O Aotearoa delivers a total immersion te reo Maori language acquisition programme and a three year teacher education bachelor degree in te reo Maori.

NZQA says Te Wananga Takiura's educational performance for programmes is excellent.

The authority says the wananga met its 80% graduation target, which is an excellent result given the majority of students are returning to study and require additional guidance and support.

Students told NZQA that their journey of learning has been intellectually, culturally and emotional transformational.
