The Coalition to End Homelessness in New Zealand is right behind the Government setting up a Ministerial committee on poverty.

National and the Maori Party have signed a confidence and supply agreement to tackle poverty.

Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia says the Committee will examine how environment, housing, employment, training and education policies can help alleviate hunger and malnutrition.

The Coalition which is a Treaty of Waitangi based organisation, works with local and central government, along with businesses and voluntary organisations.

It aims to end homelessness in New Zealand by 2020.

Co-chair Iris Pahau says she supports any initiative which aims to address poverty.
