An organisation which aims to end homelessness in New Zealand by 2020, is delighted Maori Party co-leader, Tariana Turia, is the new associate Minister of Housing.

Her position is part of a cabinet reshuffle which Prime Minister John Key announced on Monday.

The Coalition to End Homelessness co-chair Iris Pahau says Mrs Turia can help fix the the housing crisis, by being an advocate for community groups.

She says many people are confused about what the National-led Government's housing policy is.

Mrs Pahau says the coalition wants to see Mrs Turia take steps to address what is a major issue, by working with a range of organisations including community groups.
