No pay cut for wananga head

Updated at 3:52 pm on 18 December 2011

Te Wananga O Raukawa chair Robin Hapi says the tertiary institute's tumuaki has not had her pay cut.

According the annual report of the State Services Commission, the remuneration of Raukawa chief executive Merena Selby dropped from a maximum of $200,000 to $190,000.

The Tumuaki's remuneration is unconnected to educational performance indicators published by the Tertiary Education Commission, which show only 43% of courses are successfully completed.

The commission says in some cases the reported salary of chief executives, varies significantly between 2009-2010 and 2010-2011.

It says variations can be due to the timing of performance reviews and performance payments, which means a chief executive can receive two or no performance pays during a reported year.

The State Services Commission says it's changed the way it collects and reports remuneration figures, to ensure they are consistent.
