Far North iwi prepares for festivities and deed settlement

Te Aupouri iwi in the Far North has been preparing for for three days of festivities and celebrations at Te Kao.

The festival, which runs from Friday until Sunday at Potahi marae, features bands, an art exhibition, sports and a talent quest.

Te Runanga Nui O Te Aupouri spokesperson Peter-Lucas Jones says the key feature will be a signing of the Te Aupouri Deed Settlement and the Crown delivering an apology to the iwi.

He says after the signing of the deed, there will be a debate in Te Reo, which will focus on kaupapa and the iwi's strategic direction.

Mr Jones says that will give people an opportunity to be involved in a healthy and humorous discussion about the future.
