Members of New Zealand's second largest iwi are now to have the chance to express their views to the Government over its intention to partially sell off four state-owned enterprises.
When the Government published details of nine consultation hui with Maori, Hawke's Bay - where the majority of Ngati Kahungunu live - was not on the list.
Ngati Kahungunu chairman Ngahiwi Tomoana told Te Manukorihi News he hoped it was an administrative oversight.
He says kanohi ki te kanohi (face-to-face) is one of the tribe's standards and it's important the iwi talks directly to the Ministers of State-Owned Enterprises and Finance about the partial asset sales.
Mr Tomoana says the Government has now been in contact with him and a meeting will be arranged between the iwi and Finance Minister Bill English towards the end of February.
The first of the consultation hui on the sale is being held on Wednesday morning in Rotorua. It is being facilitated by Sir Wira Gardiner.
It is followed by a hui in Hamilton on Wednesday afternoon and another in Whanganui on Thursday.
