A delegation of more than 20 people from various streams of Maoridom leave Auckland on Saturday for Haridwar in India, to attend an international conference for elders of ancient traditions and cultures.
The Maori Research Institute in Rotorua is leading the group of scientists, community leaders, academics, artists and business people.
Institute director Malcolm Short says as well as attending the conference they'll be checking out trade opportunities in India for Maori owned dairy and forestry businesses.
He says India, which is the world's largest milk producer, is short of about 600,000 tonnes of milk powder a year.
Mr Short says log and manuka honey exports to India are also a possibility.
He says New Zealand's High Commissioner in India will host a reception for the delegation on Tuesday.
