Corrections says children involved in jail drugs drop

Corrections staff have thwarted a prison drugs drop in which they say children were involved.

The incident happened at Auckland Central Remand Prison last week.

Corrections says a woman and her four children were visiting her partner when staff got suspicious about what the couple were doing.

The department says it appears the prisoner tried to conceal a package on the baby he was holding.

The couple's 15-year-old daughter then picked up the baby and tried to hide the package on herself, but dropped it instead.

The package contained four grams of cannabis.

The woman and her children were held at the prison, until police arrived and arrested her.

The woman has also been banned from the prison for 12 months.
