Conrad Murray, the doctor convicted of the involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson, has been sentenced to four years in prison for his role in the singer's death.
The Los Angeles Superior Court declined to offer him probation.
Murray, 58, was found guilty on 7 November after a six-week trial.
Jackson, 50, died on 25 June 2009 from an overdose of propofol, a powerful anaesthetic.
That drug was obtained and administered to Jackson by Murray at the singer's rented home.
Murray had agreed to care for Jackson ahead of a planned comeback concert season in London and negotiated a salary of $US150,000 per month to care for him.
In sentencing Murray on Tuesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor called Murray's actions "money for medicine madness."
