Long Range Weather

The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Thursday.

A weak trough over the north of the North Island drifts south tomorrow as a low develops over the Tasman Sea.

The low gradually extends a broad trough across central areas during Tuesdaybringing rain to many places. The trough and low gradually move north on Wednesday and Thursday as a ridge spreads over the South Island from the south. >

Auckland, Coromandel, Northland, Peninsula

Showers and fine spells over the next few days, with mainly northeast breezes.

Periods of rain on Wednesday and Thursday with northwesterlies.

Bay Of Plenty, Rotorua, Taranaki, Taumarunui, Taupo, Waikato, Waitomo

A few showers developing this afternoon, then showers tomorrow, turning to rain on Tuesday with northwesterlies. Rain easing to a few showers on Wednesday with northwesterlies dying away. A few showers on Thursday with southeasterlies developing.

Horowhenua, Kapiti Coast, Manawatu, Taihape, Wanganui

Fine today, then a few showers developing tomorrow. Rain developing Tuesday afternoon then showers on Wednesday, clearing on Thursday with southeasterlies fresh in exposed places.

Gisborne, Hawkes Bay

Fine today, then a few showers developing tomorrow, turning to rain Tuesday evening. Rain easing to a few showers on Wednesday, then rain and southeasterlies on Thursday.

Marlborough, Wairarapa (including The Tararua District), Wellington

Fine today, then a few showers developing tomorrow, turning to rain on Tuesday. Winds becoming light. Showers on Wednesday with southerlies developingclearing on Thursday with southerlies easing.

Buller, Nelson, Westland

Mainly fine today, then patchy rain developing tomorrow. Rain on Tuesdaythen showers becoming confined to the ranges on Wednesday. Fine on Thursday,

apart from afternoon showers about the ranges.

Central Otago, Fiordland, Otago, Southland

Long fine spells, but mostly cloudy in Central Otago on Tuesday with the chance of a shower there. Not much wind.

Canterbury, Otago

Fine spells today, then mostly cloudy from tomorrow with drizzle at times in Canterbury and North Otago. Winds mainly easterly, but southerly on Wednesday.

Chatham Islands, The Chatham Islands

Often cloudy today and tomorrow with a few light showers and fresh southwesterlies. Longer fine spells on Tuesday with southwesterlies dying away. Drizzle and southerlies developing on Wednesday, clearing on Thursday.
