The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Thursday.
A broad complex trough over most of New Zealand recedes to the North Island during Wednesday, and weakens on Thursday. A ridge spreads over the South Island on Thursday.
Northland, Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula
Occasional showers through to Tuesday, some heavy today. Rain developing on Wednesday, then easing to showers on Thursday.
Bay Of Plenty and Rotorua
A few showers today, possibly heavy. Becoming fine tomorrow. On Tuesday, a few showers developing, then turning to rain later in the day. Rain continuing on Wednesday, then gradually clearing on Thursday.
Waikato, Waitomo, Taranaki, and Taumarunui
Heavy rain at times, with thunderstorms and hail today, easing to isolated showers tomorrow. On Tuesday, periods of rain developing. Further rain on Wednesday and Thursday, with some heavy falls in Taranaki on Wednesday, however rain gradually clearing in Waikato and Waitomo on Thursday.
Taupo and Taihape
Rain today, with heavy falls possible, easing to isolated showers tomorrow. For Tuesday through to Thursday, periods of rain.
Wanganui, Manawatu, Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, the Tararua District, Wairarapa and Wellington
Periods of rain today, with heavy falls and thunderstorms possible except for Wellington. For tomorrow through to Wednesday, mostly cloudy with a few showers. Periods of rain on Thursday.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay
For today through to Tuesday, fine spells and a few showers. Scattered rain developing on Wednesday, rain becoming widespread on Thursday.
Nelson and Buller
Showers developing today, and continuing tomorrow. On Tuesday, showers turning to rain. Further rain on Wednesday, with some heavy falls, easing later in the day. On Thursday, a few showers.
Westland and Fiordland
A few showers today, turning to rain for a time tomorrow. For Tuesday through to Thursday, a few showers, clearing in Westland on Thursday.
Marlborough
A few showers today, but rain about the coast. Tomorrow, fine spells and a few coastal showers. Rain developing on Tuesday, continuing on Wednesday, then easing to showers on Thursday.
Canterbury and eastern Otago
Low cloud with occasional rain through to Tuesday. Rain becoming persistent on Wednesday, then easing to a few showers on Thursday.
Remainder of Otago and Southland
Mostly cloudy with drizzle at times through to Tuesday. Wednesday brings a period of rain. A few showers on Thursday, mainly near the coast.
Chatham Islands
Rain today, and westerlies changing southerly. Rain easing to a few showers tomorrow, and southerlies dying away. Cloudy periods on Tuesday and Wednesdaywith northeasterlies strengthening. Rain developing on Thursdayand winds changing strong southerly.
