The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Monday.
A front moves north over New Zealand during today and tomorrow, followed by a brief ridge on Saturday. A second front moves north over the South Island on Sunday. The front then slowly crosses the North Island on Monday, while a new ridge builds over the South Island.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel Peninsula, Bay Of Plenty and Rotorua.
Showers this afternoon and evening, some heavy and possibly thundery. Long fine spells on Friday, but also some isolated showers, clearing at night.Mainly fine through the weekend. Rain developing on Monday, with some heavy falls possible about the eastern ranges of Bay of Plenty.
Waitomo, Taupo, Taumarunui, Taranaki, Taihape, Wanganui, Manawatu,
Horowhenua Kapiti Coast and Wellington.
Cloud increasing this afternoon with patchy drizzle developing about higher ground. Showers on Friday, clearing in the afternoon, then fine through Saturday. Cloud increasing again on Sunday with patchy drizzle about higher ground. Rain developing on Monday, easing to showers from the south later with a cold southerly change.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, and Wairarapa including the Tararua District.
Mainly fine, but isolated showers this afternoon and evening in Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. Northwesterlies, rising to gale in southern Hawkes Bay and the Tararua District this afternoon, easing early Friday morning. Showers developing Friday morning, some possibly heavy in the south at first. Showers retreating to the coast later on Friday then clearing Saturday morning and becoming fine. High cloud on Sunday, then showers developing again on Monday.
Buller, the western ranges of Nelson, Westland and Fiordland.
Rain spreading north this afternoon, easing to sleety showers in Fiordland, and gradually clearing elsewhere this evening and overnight. Remaining showers in Fiordland clearing during Friday, then mainly fine. Cloud increasing during Saturday and rain developing in Fiordland, spreading north during Sunday with some heavy falls, then clearing in Fiordland and Westland. Remaining rain in Buller clearing on Monday and becoming fine, but isolated afternoon and evening showers about the ranges.
The remainder of Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury.
Mainly fine, but a few showers spreading up the east coast this evening and Friday morning, with strong cold southerlies rising to gale about Banks Peninsula for a time. Fine on Saturday apart from areas of cloud about the coast. Rain developing on Sunday then clearing on Monday, but a few afternoon and evening showers inland on Monday.
Otago and Southland.
High cloud, a period of rain this afternoon, turning to showers with snow lowering to 400 metres this evening, with a strong cold southerly change, gale in exposed places until early Friday. Showers clearing on Friday then mainly fine through Saturday. A period of rain on Sunday, then mainly fine thourgh Monday apart from isolated showers about the south coast, and afternoon showers in inland Otago.
Cloudy periods, early rain on Friday easing to showers, clearing on Saturdaythen fine spells, and strong cold southwesterlies easing. Cloudy periods and westerlies on Sunday. A period of rain with a southerly change on Monday.
