The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Sunday.
A moist disturbed northwest flow lies over New Zealand for most of the period.However, a ridge moves eastwards across northern New Zealand over the weekend.
Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula and Waikato
Fine spells and isolated light showers at first. Rain developing overnight tomorrow, with some heavy falls, then easing to showers Friday afternoon, and northerlies turning lighter westerly. Showers clearing on Saturday. Long fine spells on Sunday.
Waitomo, Taranaki, Taumarunui, Taupo, Bay Of Plenty and Rotorua
Occasional drizzle turning to rain tomorrow, with heavy falls. Rain easing from the west to showers during Friday, and strong northerlies dying away. Becoming fine on Saturday. Mainly fine on Sunday, but becoming cloudy with showers in Taranaki.
Taihape, Wanganui and Manawatu
Becoming cloudy tomorrow and rain developing, with heavy falls inland, easing to showers tomorrow night. Showers and increasing fine spells on Friday. Showers clearing early Saturday, then mainly fine. Cloudy periods on Sunday.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa including the Tararua District
High cloud increasing today, and northwesterlies rising to gale in exposed parts of Wairarapa. Rain developing in the south tonight, and spreading north tomorrow, with heavy falls about the ranges. Wind and rain both easing from the south late tomorrow and on Friday, then becoming fine. Mainly fine over the weekend.
Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, Wellington, Marlborough, and Nelson away from the western ranges
A few showers turning to rain later today, and northwesterlies rising to gale in exposed places. Rain clearing from the south tomorrow, and northwesterlies abating. Mainly fine on Friday and Saturday. Cloudy periods on Sunday, with northwesterlies strengthening again.
The western ranges of Nelson, also Buller, Westland, Fiordland and the Southern Alps
Unsettled, with rain, heavy and thundery at times, for much of the period. However, rain clearing for a time north of Hokitika tomorrow afternoon and early Friday.
Canterbury away from the Alps
High cloud and a few spots of rain today, with northwest gales in exposed places until evening. Mainly fine tomorrow and Friday. High cloud on Saturday and Sunday, with scattered rain near the foothills.
Otago away from the Alps, and also Southland
Scattered rain clearing this afternoon, and becoming fine with northerly winds abating. High cloud increasing tomorrow, with scattered rain later. High cloud and scattered brief rain on Friday and Saturday. Scattered rain clearing Sunday morning, but remaining rather cloudy.
Cloudy periods increasing tomorrow. Rain developing tomorrow eveningclearing early Saturday but remaining rather cloudy. Northwesterlies dying away late Friday.
