Long Range Weather

The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday.

A low moves quickly southeast over the North Island overnight tomorrow and early Sunday, followed by a strong disturbed westerly flow over the country.

This is expected to turn colder southerly the South Island on Monday and North Island on Tuesday.

Northland Auckland Coromandel Peninsula Bay Of Plenty Rotorua

Waikato Waitomo Taumarunui Taranaki and Taupo

Fine today. Rain spreading from the north tomorrow, heavy in the evening with northerlies strengthening. Morning showers on Sunday, then fine spells. Winds turning westerly. Showers spreading to most places on Monday, but just cloudy periods north of Hamilton. Colder southerlies on Tuesday with showers, but clearing south of Auckland.

Wanganui Taihape Manawatu Horowhenua Kapiti Coast

Fine today. Cloud increasing tomorrow. A shower or two about Kapiti, then rain spreading to most places at night. Morning and evening showers on Sunday with westerlies strengthening. A few showers on Monday, becoming frequent north of Levin, then clearing on Tuesday with cold southerlies.

Gisborne Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa (including the Tararua District)

Fine today, then high cloud increasing tomorrow and rain spreading south at night with northerlies. Scattered rain clearing Sunday morning and becoming fine. Winds turning westerly, rising to gale in Wairarapa. A few showers may spread east in Wairarapa on Monday, then cold showery southerlies spreading north on Tuesday.

Wellington and Marlborough

Fine today, and brief morning showers about Wellington and the Sounds tomorrow.

Mostly sunny on Sunday and Monday. Northwesterlies rising to gale in exposed places on Sunday, easing Monday. Cold showery southerlies on Tuesday.

Nelson

Mostly cloudy today with a shower or two, then becoming fine tomorrow.

Fine on Sunday, but showers developing west of Motueka from evening and continuing on Monday. Westerlies. Fine on Tuesday with southerlies.

Buller Westland and Fiordland

Fine today, apart from showers about Buller. A few showers tomorrow, turning to rain in Fiordland. Rain on Sunday, then becoming showery in Fiordland with snow lowering to 500 metres there. Cold and showery on Monday, with snow lowering to 200 metres in Fiordland, becoming fine in Westland on Tuesday and showers clearing in Buller.

Canterbury and North Otago

Fine today and tomorrow. High cloud on Sunday with northwesterlies strong and gusty for a time. A change to colder southwesterlies with showers later on Monday and cold and showery on Tuesday with snow down to 400 metres on Banks Peninsula.

The Remaininder OTAGO and SOUTHLAND

Fine today. High cloud increasing tomorrow and northwesterlies strengthening.

Scattered rain developing in the south in the evening. Scattered rain at first on Sunday, followed by colder showery southwesterlies, with snow lowering to 500 metres in Southland and south Otago in the evening.

Sleety showers on Monday with snow lowering to 200 metres, then snow level rising above 800 metres on Tuesday.

The Chatham Islands

Showers with southwesterlies today, then clearing tomorrow with winds tending northwest. Rain developing on Sunday with northerlies. Cold showery southwesterlies on Monday and Tuesday.
