The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Thursday.
A ridge of high pressure covers most of the country today, however, a front stalls over central New Zealand and weakens. The ridge moves over the North Island on Tuesday, while a complex trough moves onto the lower South Island.The trough moves slowly northwards over the country on Wednesday and Thursdayfollowed by another ridge over the South Island.
Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula
Fine today. Cloudy periods for Monday and Tuesday with isolated afternoon and evening showers. Fine and cloudy periods on Wednesday. Showery on Thursday.
Mostly fine today. Patchy drizzle tomorrow morning, then fine breaks, and a few afternoon and evening showers. Cloudy periods and isolated showers for Tuesday and Wednesday. Showers on Thursday turning to rain for a time.
Waitomo, Taumarunui, Taranaki, western Taupo
Cloudy with patchy drizzle today. Cloud breaking and drizzle clearing tomorrow morning, then a few showers developing during the afternoon and evening, some possibly heavy. Cloudy periods and isolated showers for Tuesday and Wednesday.Showers turning to rain for a time on Thursday, with some heavy falls possible.
Bay Of Plenty, Rotorua, eastern Taupo
Mainly fine today and tomorrow, apart from a few afternoon and evening showers inland, some heavy and possibly thundery. Cloudy periods and isolated showers on Tuesday and Wednesday. Showers turning to rain for a time on Thursday, with some heavy falls possible.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay
Cloud increasing and isolated showers developing today. Cloudy with a few showers tomorrow, some heavy and possibly thundery about the ranges during the afternoon and evening. Fine breaks and a few showers on Tuesday. High cloud on Wednesday. Scattered rain on Thursday.
Wairarapa including the Tararua District
Often cloudy, with a few showers today and tomorrow. Fine with high cloud for Tuesday and much of Wednesday. Rain developing late Wednesday, then easing later Thursday.
Taihape, Wanganui, Manawatu, Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, Wellington
Often cloudy, with a few showers or patchy drizzle today to Wednesday. Some showers possibly heavy about the ranges tomorrow afternoon and evening, with thunderstorms possible for Taihape. Periods of rain Thursday, with some heavy falls possible in the south.
