Long Range Weather

The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Saturday.

A complex low pressure system is expected to move east across the North Island today, followed by a front which moves onto the South Island this eveningbut then weakens as it moves over the North Island overnight. From late Wednesdayan unsettled westerly flow covers the country, with a trough in this flow crossing New Zealand on Thursday, and another trough again on Saturday.

Northland Auckland Coromandel Peninsula Bay Of Plenty Rotorua

Today and tomorrow, cloudy periods and a few showers, but longer fine spells developing in the Bay of Plenty and Rotorua. On Thursday, a few showers developing in the morning, turning to rain for a time in the afternoon, with some heavy falls possible. On Friday, a few showers, becoming widespread for a time in Northland and Auckland. On Saturday, showers, turning to rain for a time later.

Waikato Waitomo Taumarunui Taupo

Today, showers in Waikato, some heavy, clearing early this afternoonotherwise fine spells increasing. Tomorrow, showers developing in the morning and clearing in the afternoon. On Thursday, rain developing, with some heavy falls and possible thunderstorms, easing later. On Friday, showersturning to rain for a time in the morning. On Saturday, further rain, with some heavy falls possible.

Taranaki Wanganui Taihape Manawatu Horowhenua Kapiti Coast Wellington

Today and tomorrow, mostly fine. However, brief rain or showers early

tomorrow. On Thursday, rain, briefly heavy and possibly thundery, easing to showers by evening. On Friday, mostly fine in Wellington. Cloudy with a few showers further north, turning to rain for a time in Taranaki. On Saturdayrain developing, with some heavy falls possible north of Wellington.

Gisborne Hawkes Bay Wairarapa including the Tararua District

Today, mainly fine, but showers in Gisborne gradually clearing. Tomorrowa few morning showers then fine spells. On Thursday, rain developing about the western ranges, with some heavy falls possible, and scattered rain spreading elsewhere. On Friday, mainly fine. On Saturday, rain about the western rangesand brief rain spreading elsewhere in Wairarapa, otherwise mainly fine.>

Nelson except for the western ranges Marlborough Canterbury

Today and tomorrow, mostly fine, but a few spots of morning rain tomorrow. On Thursday, scattered rain, but mainly fine in the afternoon. On Friday, mainly fine. On Saturday, fine at first, a few showers later.

Western NELSON ranges BULLER WESTLAND FIORDLAND

Today, mostly sunny, but rain developing south of Hokitika this eveningbecoming heavy and possibly thundery in Fiordland. Tomorrow, morning rain easing to a few showers, but rain returning again in the evening, possibly heavy and thundery in the south. On Thursday, rain with some heavy falls, a few possible thunderstorms in the north at first. On Friday, rain easing to a few showers in the morning, then returning in the south later, with snow down to 400 metres in Fiordland. On Saturday, rain, with heavy falls, easing later.Snow possible to low levels in Fiordland.

Otago Southland

Today, sunny spells but high cloud. Tomorrow, mostly fine, but a few spots of rain morning and night. On Thursday, early rain then fine spells, but rain returning in the west in the afternoon or evening. Snow down to 500 metres later. On Friday, occasional rain or showers, snow down to 400 metres at first.On Saturday, sleety rain, with snow to low levels in the south.

And for the CHATHAM ISLANDS

Today and tomorrow, cloudy periods and a few showers. Strong southwesterlies easing and turning northwest tomorrow. A period of rain later Thursday, with northwesterlies strengthening for a time. On Friday, showers and westerliesmay rise to gale for a time. On Saturday, rain developing and strengthening northwesterlies.
