The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday.
A complex trough over New Zealand moves away to the east on Sunday followed by a cold disturbed southwest flow.
Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato, Waitomo, Taupo, TaumarunuiTaihape and Taranaki
Showers, some heavy, especially in the west, and possibly thundery there tonight and tomorrow. Showers and long fine spells on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Snow showers possible on high level roads overnight Monday. Westerlies dying out on Sunday, cooler southwesterlies later.
Wanganui, Manawatu and Horowhenua Kapiti Coast
Showers, some heavy, and possibly thundery tomorrow. Northwesterlies rising to severe gale in exposed places tomorrow, then dying away tomorrow evening.Showers and long fine spells on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Bay Of Plenty and Rotorua
Showers, some heavy and possibly thundery, clearing from the west late today. Occasional showers tomorrow, mainly in the east and some heavy there. Long fine spells and a few showers on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Northwesterlies dying out tomorrow, southwesterlies developing on Monday.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay
Mainly fine today and tomorrow, but isolated showers this afternoon and tomorrow morning. Northwesterlies dying away late tomorrow. Occasional showers developing early Sunday with a southwest change. Showers becoming more frequent on Monday, with snow showers possible on high level roads at night. Fine spells increasing on Tuesday and southwesterlies easing.
Wairarapa including the Tararua District, Wellington and Marlborough
Mainly fine in eastern Wairarapa and Marlborough today, but showers elsewheresome heavy about the ranges. A period of rain tomorrow morning, followed by fine spells and isolated showers. Northwesterlies, severe gale in Wairarapa for a time tomorrow, turning cooler southerly by tomorrow evening. Showers on Sunday and Monday, mainly in the east, but becoming fine in inland Marlborough on Sunday, with frosts overnight. Becoming fine in most places on Tuesday.
Nelson, Buller, Westland and Fiordland
Outbreaks of rain, with heavy thundery falls in the west, and snow lowering to 700 metres in Westland and Fiordland. However, only scattered rain about Nelson City. Becoming mostly fine tomorrow. Southwesterlies developing on Sunday, with showers near the west coast. Becoming fine again on Monday. Mainly fine on Tuesday, but a few showers in the west.
Fine today apart from showers about the ranges. Fine at first tomorrow. Cold southwesterlies freshening later tomorrow and showers developing, falling as snow above 600 metres overnight. Showers on Sunday, mainly morning and evening. A few showers on Monday and Tuesday, mostly over Banks Peninsula.
Otago and Southland
Long fine spells and a shower or two today. Southerlies spreading north tomorrow, with a period of rain followed by showers, falling as snow above 500 metres overnight. On Sunday, fine spells increasing inland and in the east. Becoming fine everywhere on Monday. Showers near Foveaux Strait on Tuesdayand a few morning showers elsewhere.
A period of rain late today and overnight. Fine spells tomorrow and northerlies dying away. Showers tomorrow evening, some heavy. Showers becoming lighter and less frequent on Sunday, and southwesterlies developing. More frequent showers and strong southerlies on Monday and Tuesday.
