The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday.
A low approaches New Zealand from the Tasman Sea today. The low is forecast to lie slow-moving northwest of New Zealand through the weekend, weakening Monday and Tuesday, the whole period directing a moist northeasterly flow onto the North Island. A ridge of high pressure should build over the South Island on Tuesday, weakening again on Wednesday.
Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, Bay Of Plenty and Rotorua.
Cloudy periods, isolated showers in Northland and the Bay of Plenty rangeshis afternoon. A few showers returning to Auckland Saturday morningthen spreading elsewhere in the afternoon. Rain spreading from the north during Sunday, with some heavy falls possible. Easing to isolated showers on Mondaybut rain returns north of Coromandel Peninsula on Tuesday.
Waikato, Waitomo, Taupo, and Taumarunui.
Cloud increasing, then a few showers from tonight through Saturday. Scattered rain on Sunday, clearing late Monday. Fine spells on Tuesday, with a few afternoon and evening showers.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay.
Fine with high cloud, occasional rain developing on Saturday, then clearing later Monday. Cloudy periods on Tuesday, with a few afternoon and evening showers about the ranges.
Taranaki, Taihape, Wanganui, Manawatu, Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, Wellington and Wairarapa including the Tararua District.
Isolated light showers today. Occasional rain though the weekend, easing late Sunday and clearing on Monday. Mainly fine Tuesday, but a few afternoon and evening showers. Strong southeasterlies for a time on Saturday.
Buller, Nelson and Marlborough.
Cloudy with isolated light rain, becoming more persistent in Buller and the Nelson ranges tonight. Occasional rain through the weekend, with some heavy falls possible during Sunday. Rain easing on Monday then clearing later. Fine spells on Tuesday.
Westland and Fiordland.
Mainly fine today. Rain developing in the north tonight, then spreading through Westland on Saturday and Fiordland on Sunday, with some heavy falls possible. Rain gradually clearing on Monday and becoming mainly fine, but showers return in Fiordland on Tuesday with strengthening northerlies.
Canterbury and North Otago.
Cloud increasing, with patchy drizzle developing tonight, then continuing through Saturday. Scattered rain developing on Sunday, easing north of about Christchurch later, then gradually clearing on Monday. Cloudy periods on Tuesday.
The remainder of Otago and Southland.
Cloudy periods, the odd shower about the coast clearing Saturday morning.Scattered rain developing on Sunday, then clearing on Monday. Mainly fine on Tuesday.
Mostly cloudy, a few showers and strong southwesterlies from this evening. Showers clearing on Sunday and strong or gale southwesterlies dying out, then tending northwest later. Northwesterlies rising to gale on Monday and rain developing. Rain clearing Tuesday with winds tending southwest, then dying out.
