Long Range Weather

The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Thursday.
A front moves north over the South Island today and becomes slow moving over the North Island on Monday, then pulls away to the east on Tuesday. A second front, preceded by strengthening northerlies and followed by disturbed westerlies, moves north over the South Island late Tuesday and the North Island on Wednesday. A third trough moves over the South Island on Wednesday and weakens, followed by disturbed southwesterlies through Thursday.
Cloudy periods, a few showers developing on Monday, remaining through to Thursday, more frequent at times during Tuesday and Wednesday.
Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato, Bay Of Plenty and Rotorua.
Cloudy periods, patchy drizzle in the west spreading elsewhere early Monday then turning to rain Monday afternoon. Rain at times through Tuesday, easing to a few showers on Wednesday, clearing in Bay of Plenty on Thursday.
Waitomo, Taumarunui, Taupo, Taranaki, Taihape, Wanganui, Manawatu, Horowhenua Kapiti Coast and Wellington.
Patchy drizzle turning to rain tonight in the south and Monday morning elsewhere, with some heavy falls possible about higher ground. Rain gradually clearing from the south during Monday. Mainly fine Tuesday morning, however rain returning by Tuesday afternoon, then turning to showers on Wednesday, some possibly heavy during the afternoon. A few showers on Thursday.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa including the Tararua District.
Mainly fine with high cloud. Rain spreading north during Monday, then clearing from the south late Monday and early Tuesday. High cloud with a few spots of rain, mainly about the ranges and Wairarapa, during Tuesday and Wednesday.With Strong gusty northwesterlies, gale in exposed places. A few showers on Thursday with a southerly change.
Buller, Nelson and Marlborough.
Rain in Buller and western Nelson, becoming heavy and possibly thundery this evening and rain spreading elsewhere. Easing to isolated showers Monday morning, then becoming confined to the ranges from afternoon. Periods of rain through Tuesday and Wednesday, with heavy falls in Buller, turning to showers Wednesday. Some showers possibly heavy in Buller during Thursday, but becoming isolated elsewhere.
Westland, Fiordland, and the main divide including the Canterbury and Otago lakes.
Rain clearing from the south during this afternoon and evening, then mainly fine on Monday. Rain developing on Tuesday, with heavy falls, easing to showers later. Another period of heavy rain on Wednesday, then showers at times through to Thursday.
The remainder of Canterbury, and North Otago
Mostly cloudy, a few showers developing this afternoon, mainly about the Canterbury foothills, clearing Monday morning, but a few return during the afternoon about the foothills, cloud increasing Monday evening. High cloud and occasional scattered rain through Wednesday, with strong gusty northwesterlies, gale in exposed places. Showers developing on Wednesday with a cool southerly change, then mainly fine with high cloud on Thursday.
The remainder of Otago, and Southland.
Fine spells, isolated showers retreating to the south coast Monday morningthen clearing early afternoon. High cloud increasing on Tuesday, with a period of afternoon and evening rain. Rain again on Wednesday, turning to showers later, some possibly heavy about the coast, showers easing and becoming scattered on Thursday.
Cloudy periods, a few showers on Monday turning to rain for a time with a strong southwest change. A few showers and strong southwesterlies continue through Tuesday, turning to rain overnight with strong northerlies developing.Rain easing to a few showers on Wednesday. A few showers continue through Thursday with westerliesstrong at times.
