Long Range Weather

The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Monday.
A high over most of the country recedes to the North Island late tomorrow. A trough moves onto the South Island on Saturday, preceded by strengthening northerlies. The northerly flow spreads onto the North Island on Sunday, as the trough weakens away over the South Island. Moist northeasterlies strengthen over the country on Monday as a low over the Tasman Sea approaches New Zealand.
Mainly fine through to Saturday, however, a few showers in the north and eastsome heavy today and tomorrow. Rain developing on Sunday, then easing to a few showers on Tuesday.
Auckland, Waikato, Waitomo, Taumarunui and Taupo
Mainly fine through to Saturday. Rain developing late Sunday, then easing on Monday.
Coromandel Peninsula, Bay Of Plenty and Rotorua
Fine at first, but becoming cloudy with a few showers on Saturday, turning to rain on Sunday.
Taihape, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa including the Tararua District
Mainly fine today and tomorrow, a few showers about coastal Gisborne clearing on Friday. High cloud developing from Saturday. Showers developing about northern Gisborne and the Wairarapa ranges on Sunday, spreading elsewhere at times from Monday.
Fine today, cloudy periods tomorrow. Showers developing on Saturday, then turning to rain on Sunday before easing on Monday.
Wanganui, Manawatu, Horowhenua Kapiti Coast and Wellington
Mainly fine until Saturday, but areas of cloud at times. Rain developing early Sunday, easing on Monday.
Buller, Westland and Fiordland
Fine at first but cloud increasing about Westland and Fiordland todayand Buller tomorrow morning. Rain or showers in Fiordland tonight, spreading elsewhere tomorrow, then rain or showers for the rest of the period.
Nelson and Marlborough except the Kaikoura Coast
Fine today and tomorrow. Becoming cloudy and rain developing on Saturday, with some heavy falls about the Nelson ranges from Sunday. Rain easing to a few showers on Monday, and clearing in Marlborough.
THE KAIKOURA COAST, CANTERBURY, OTAGO AND SOUTHLAND
Mostly fine today and tomorrow. Scattered rain spreading north from early Saturday, then clearing in Canterbury, Otago and Southland on Sunday, and the Kaikoura Coast on Monday.
Occasional showers, clearing tomorrow and fine spells increasing with southwesterlies dying out. Cloudy periods increasing on Saturday with northerlies freshening. A few showers developing on Monday and northerlies strengthening.
