The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday.
A front over the South Island moves onto the North Island tonight, followed by a ridge. A second front moves up the South Island during Sunday with an associated complex low affecting the country on Monday and Tuesday.
Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, Bay Of Plenty and Rotorua
Mainly fine, with one or two showers today. A period of rain spreads north tomorrow, clearing south of Auckland by midday. A few afternoon or evening on Sunday, turning to rain overnight, with some heavy falls on Monday, easing few showers on Tuesday.
Waikato, Waitomo, Taupo, Taumarunui, Taranaki, Taihape, Wanganui, ManawatuHorowhenua Kapiti Coast and Wellington
Patchy rain, becoming widespread late this afternoon or evening, with some heavy thundery falls possible. Clearing from the south overnight and becoming fine tomorrow. Cloud increasing on Sunday with rain developing in the evening.Rain on Monday, heavy with possible thunderstorms, easing to showers on Tuesday.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa (including the Tararua District)
Mostly fine, but brief rain in Wairarapa today and further north tomorrow.High cloud increasing on Sunday, and scattered rain developing early on Monday, then clearing in the evening. A few showers on Tuesday.
Nelson and Marlborough
Scattered rain, with some heavy falls, clearing this evening and becoming fine.Cloud increasing on Sunday and rain developing in the evening. Rain with heavy falls on Monday, then clearing most places on Tuesday.
Buller, Westland, including the Southern Alps
Rain, with thunderstorms in Buller, gradually easing to showers from the souththen clearing this evening. Cloudy periods tomorrow with isolated morning showers. Rain developing on Sunday, and becoming heavy at night.Becoming mainly fine on Tuesday.
Showers turning to rain tonight, then easing tomorrow. Rain becoming heavy on Sunday, with snow lowering to 800 metres. Rain easing on Monday and becoming fine on Tuesday.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland
Scattered showers, becoming confined to the south coast tonight. Rain and cold southerlies developing in Southland in the evening, spreading elsewhere overnight with snow down to 900 metres. Heavy rain in Canterbury and eastern Otago on Monday, but rain easing elsewhere. Rain clearing in the south on Tuesday and easing elsewhere.
Rain developing tonight, then clearing tomorrow morning. Showers for a time on Sunday with strong to gale westerlies easing. Rain on Monday and Tuesday.
