The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Sunday.

A deep low to the east of the North Island is moving further east

today. Meanwhile, a ridge lies over central New Zealand and a trough

approaches the South Island from the west. The trough moves across

the country during Thursday, followed by disturbed strong cold

Southwesterlies. another trough should move over the lower South

Island late sunday.

Northland, Auckland Coromandel Peninsula Waikato Waitomo Taumarunui

Fine today with southwesterlies. Rain spreading east from tomorrow afternoon with freshening northwesterlies, then showers with southwesterlies strengthening. Showers and strong southwesterlies on Friday and Saturday, but mainly fine on Sunday.

Bay Of Plenty, Rotorua, Taupo and Taihape Wanganui Taranaki Manawatu

Mainly fine today, apart from rain about the eastern ranges. Rain spreading east tomorrow afternoon with freshening northwesterlies, followed by showers and strengthening southwesterlies. Showers and cold westerlies on Friday and Saturday, with possible snow about the higher roads inland, then easing on Sunday.

Horowhenua Kapiti Coast and Wellington

Fine today. Cloud increasing tomorrow and rain developing in the afternoonthen showers, with northwesterlies strengthening. A few showers on Friday with strong or gale northwesterlies, then mainly fine on Saturday with a change to southwesterlies. Cloudy periods on Sunday with northwesterlies strengthening.

Gisborne and Hawkes Bay

Showers, clearing tonight then fine. Showers returning tomorrow afternoonthen clearing from the south. Mainly fine on Friday with northwesterlies strengthening. A few showers on Saturday with a change to southwesterliesthen mainly fine on Sunday with strengthening northwesterlies.

Wairarapa including the Tararua District

Mainly fine today and tomorrow, apart from brief rain tomorrow evening.Northwesterlies rising to gale tomorrow evening, then easing on Saturday with a change to cold showery southwesterlies. Mainly fine on Sunday, with northwesterlies rising to gale in exposed places.

Buller and Westland

Fine today. Rain spreading north tomorrow with heavy falls, then easing to showers on Friday with cold southwesterlies, and snow to 500 metres about the ranges. Mainly fine on Saturday with just a few showers in the north, but rain with heavy falls spreading north on Sunday.


Drizzle, turning to rain this evening with strengthening northerlies. Heavy rain tomorrow, then showers and gale southwesterlies on Friday with snow lowering to low levels. Showers and southwesterlies easing on Saturdaybut rain with heavy falls developing on Sunday with freshening northwesterlies.

Nelson and Marlborough

Fine today. Scattered rain spreading east tomorrow afternoon and evening, and northwesterlies strengthening in the north. A few showers on Friday, then mainly fine on Saturday and Sunday. Northwesterlies strengthening in the north Sunday evening.

Canterbury, Otago and Southland

Fine today. Scattered rain developing in the south tomorrow, then spreading north on Friday, followed by showers and cold southwesterlies, and possible snow to low levels in the south. Showers becoming confined to the south on Saturday and Sunday.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy, with rain at times today and tomorrow. Fine spells with northwesterlies on Friday. Showers on Saturday with southwesterlies. Fine on Sunday with northwesterlies strengthening.
