The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Friday.
A ridge of high pressure spreads across New Zealand from the west today. The ridge then moves to the north of the country on Tuesday, and strengthening northwesterlies develop. A front moves northeastwards across New Zealand on Wednesday. Another ridge lies across the upper North Island from Thursdaywhile a disturbed westerly flow affects the rest of the country.
Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, Bay Of Plenty, Rotorua
Isolated showers clearing today and becoming mostly fine. Fine and cloudy periods for Tuesday and Wednesday, with a few showers spreading northwards Wednesday afternoon and evening. Fine for Thursday and Friday.
Waikato, Waitomo, Taumarunui, Taupo, Taranaki
Isolated showers clearing today, becoming mainly fine. Fine and cloudy periods tomorrow. Showers developing Wednesday morning, turning to rain in the afternoon, then clearing later. Fine and cloudy periods for Thursday and Friday, with isolated showers developing late Friday.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa including the Tararua District
Showers becoming isolated this afternoon and fine breaks increasing. Howeversome showers may be heavy with thunderstorms and hail this afternoon and early evening, before clearing tonight. Fine tomorrow with some high cloud.Scattered rain for a time on Wednesday, and northwesterlies possibly rising to severe gale in exposed parts of Wairarapa and Tararua District until Wednesday evening. Fine for Thursday and Friday.
Taihape, Wanganui, Manawatu, Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, Wellington
Remaining showers clearing and becoming fine today. Fine and cloudy periods tomorrow. Rain for a time on Wednesday, with heavy falls about the Tararua Range, and northwesterlies possibly rising to severe gale for exposed parts of Wellington. Fine on Thursday apart from areas of cloud morning and night.Cloudy periods and isolated showers on Friday.

Scattered morning rain on Wednesday, followed by a few coastal showers for Marlborough but becoming fine elsewhere. Northwesterlies possibly reaching severe gale in exposed parts of Marlborough for a time Wednesday morning. Mainly fine for Thursday and Friday.
Buller, Westland, Fiordland
Fine and dry for most today, but isolated showers also. Mainly fine at first tomorrow, however, drizzle about Fiordland turning to rain, with some heavy falls, and spreading elsewhere late in the day. Northwesterlies reaching severe gale in exposed parts of Fiordland Tuesday afternoon to early Wednesday.Rain with heavy falls easing to fine breaks and a few showers on Wednesday morning. Showers for Thursday, gradually easing on Friday.
Fine today. High cloud increasing tomorrow, and northwesterlies rising to severe gale in exposed inland places from tomorrow evening until mid-morning on Wednesday. Rain on Wednesday, possibly heavy about the headwaters, easing to showers, then clearing later. Fine with variable high cloud on Thursday.Scattered rain on Friday, gradually clearing.
Mainly fine for Otago today, but cloud and a few showers for Southland. High cloud tomorrow with a few spots of rain from afternoon, but heavy falls possible about the Otago headwaters. Northwesterlies rising to severe gale in exposed inland places from Tuesday evening to early Wednesday. Rain easing to showers Wednesday morning, and westerlies rising to gale about the south coastthen showers and winds gradually easing and fine breaks increasing. Rain returning on Thursday, then easing and clearing during Friday.
