The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Wednesday.
A ridge to the east directs northeast flow over the North Island, which becomes moist later in the period. Meanwhile, a front moves slowly north over the South Island Monday, then weakens and becomes slow-moving over central New Zealand on Tuesday.
Northland Auckland Coromandel Peninsula Bay Of Plenty Rotorua
Waikato Waitomo Taumarunui and Taupo
Mostly sunny over the next few days. Drizzle spreading south over Northland Monday, then Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula on Tuesday and further south on Wednesday.
Taranaki Wanganui Taihape Manawatu
Cloud morning and evening, otherwise mostly fine, though cloud increasing on Wednesday.
Horowhenua Kapiti Coast and Wellington
Cloud morning and evening over the weekend, otherwise fine. Cloudy periods on Monday. Northerlies, breezy about Wellington. Drizzle at times on Tuesday. A weak southerly change. Cloudy periods on Wednesday with northerlies.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay
Wairarapa (including the Tararua District)
Fine over the weekend and on Monday with northerlies. Some drizzle on Tuesday with a weak southerly change. Cloudy periods on Wednesday with northerlies.
Marlborough and Nelson
Fine over the weekend and on Monday. Some drizzle on Tuesday, but rain about the western ranges of Nelson. The rain still likely about the western ranges of Nelson on Wednesday, but little if any elsewhere.
Fine spells. A few showers developing this evening, clearing tomorrow morning.
Cloud increasing Monday and rain developing at night. Periods of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Westland and Fiordland
Rain spreading north today, with some heavy and thundery falls, then gradually
easing in Westland tomorrow. Heavy rain spreading north again Monday, then clearing. Mainly fine on Tuesday, but rain north of Hokitika at first. Rain or drizzle developing on Wednesday.
Fine today, apart from isolated afternoon and evening showers. Morning low cloud tomorrow then fine. High cloud and northerlies on Monday, then showers and southerlies at night. Any drizzle clearing Tuesday morning, followed by fine spells. Fine spells on Wednesday with northeasterlies gradually freshening.
Otago and Southland
Scattered rain, clearing tonight. A few afternoon and evening showers tomorrow.
A period of rain spreading north Monday afternoon and evening with a southerly change. Fine spells on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Chatham Islands
Fine today. Showers developing tomorrow afternoon with a southwest changethen clearing later. Cloudy periods on Monday and Tuesday with northerlies developing. Drizzle late Tuesday with a weak southerly change. A few drizzle patches on Wednesday with easterlies.
