The MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Friday.
A northwest flow with a series of embedded fronts predominates over New Zealand throughout the period.
Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, Bay Of Plenty, Rotorua, WaikatoWaitomo, Taumarunui, Taupo, Taranaki
Cloudy with showers or drizzle today and tomorrow, but fine spells north of Waikato and Bay of Plenty tomorrow morning. Rain with heavy falls developing for Taranaki tomorrow morning, then spreading eastwards during the remainder of the day, before clearing later for western areas south of Waikato. Showers then affect these regions through to Friday, interrupted by periods of rain and heavy falls at times.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa including the Tararua District
Fine with high cloud today. Scattered rain developing for Wairarapa tomorrow morning, and spreading elsewhere tomorrow evening, before retreating to Gisborne. Rain returns to Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa during Wednesday, then clears everywhere later Thursday to mainly fine. A period of rain for Wairarapa on Friday, but just a few spots of afternoon rain for the remaining areas.
Taihape, Wanganui, Manawatu
Mostly cloudy today. Scattered rain developing tomorrow morning, then clearing tomorrow evening. Cloud increasing again on Wednesday and rain developing in the afternoon, then clearing Thursday afternoon and becoming fine. Another band of rain passes through on Friday, followed by showers.
Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, Wellington
Occasional rain today and tomorrow, clearing tomorrow evening for a mainly fine Wednesday morning. Cloud increasing later Wednesday and rain returningwith some heavy falls possible Thursday morning, before easing to showers.Another period of rain affects the regions during Friday morning.
Nelson excluding the western ranges, also Northern and western Marlborough
Periods of rain, with some heavy falls tomorrow, clearing tomorrow afternoon.Mainly fine on Wednesday, but a few spots of rain developing overnight, before clearing Thursday morning. Rain returning Thursday night, with some heavy falls, then easing later Friday.
The western ranges of Nelson, also Buller, Westland
Rain, with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms, turning to showers tomorrowsome heavy and possibly thundery with hail, before clearing later tomorrow for a mainly fine Wednesday. Showers developing late Wednesday, then rain spreading northwards again later Thursday, with some heavy falls and possible thunderstorms, turning to showers on Friday with heavy falls and snow lowering to 500 metres.
Showers or rain affect the area throughout the period, with some heavy and possibly thundery falls with hail at times. Snow lowering to 500 metres for a time tomorrow, then lowering to 600 metres on Thursday and to 300 metres on Friday.
The remainder of Marlborough, also Canterbury, Otago, Southland
Scattered rain inland clearing to become mainly fine with high cloud todaybut scattered rain returning in the north for a time this evening. Occasional rain developing inland tomorrow morning, with a few showers spreading northwards further east later. Mainly fine for Wednesday through to Friday, but occasional rain for Marlborough Wednesday night into Thursday morningscattered rain inland for Otago and Southland for a time Thursday afternoonand morning showers on Friday in the far south.
Cloudy today with strengthening northerlies. Rain developing tomorrow morningthen clearing Wednesday afternoon and strong northerlies dying out. Rain with heavy falls developing Thursday and northerlies rising to gale, then easing to showers Friday with northerlies easing slightly.
