An independent investigation has found workplace abuse at workplaces in China that produce iPhones and iPads for Apple.
The US-based Fair Labour Association (FLA) says it has found major health and safety risks, excessive working hours and unpaid wages at factories run by Apple's partner Foxconn.
The FLA says it has now secured agreements to reduce hours, protect pay, and improve staff representation.
Apple said it "fully accepted" the report's recommendations.
The BBC says the FLA report had been much anticipated as a new and transparent approach to the problem of cheap but popular consumer goods being manufactured in poor conditions in developing countries.
However, it notes that the authorities in China are very wary of unions and are likely to remain so and the report admits that the Foxconn workers do not have true trade union representation.
