Suicide bomb in Afghanistan kills nine

9:27 pm on 10 April 2012

At least nine people have been killed in a suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan's western Herat province, police say.

The attack targeted the government headquarters of Guzara district as people queued to see officials.

Eyewitnesses saw shattered bodies and mangled metal after the blast. At least 21 people were injured.

Officials say another eight people - all of them policemen - were killed in a separate attack in the south.

In the Herat attack, the suicide bombers apparently drove up in a four-wheel-drive vehicle before detonating their explosive vests.

Six civilians and three policemen were killed, police said.
