Gobal guitar company Gibson Guitars says more than 2000 jobs may be created in Fiji if plans for a new mahogany processing factory goes ahead next year.

Chief executive of the US-based company, Henry Juszkiewicz, told the Fiji Times the company is in talks with Fiji's interim government and other partners including Sustainable Mahogany Industries, which already makes Gibson guitar parts.

He says he hopes to see the project completed by 2013.

Last week, the interim Prime Minister launcced the Fiji Pure Mahogany brand at a ceremony at the existing factory in Deuba, saying the brand represents great promise for Fiji.
