A private high-speed train in Italy made its inaugural journey on Friday, from Rome to Naples in just over an hour.
The trains have wider carriages with three different coach classes offering panoramic windows and leather seats, and travel at a top speed of 360kmh.
They are operated by NTV, which is led by a group of Italian businessmen. SNCF, the national rail company in France, also owns a 20% stake.
The company hopes to compete with the state rail network with a pricing system where passengers can get cut-price tickets by booking early or travelling at off-peak times.
