Police in Zimbabwe have arrested a journalist from New Zealand for reporting from there without accreditation.

Hammond Robin Nicholas was arrested together with a Zimbabwean charity worker in the border town of Beitbridge, 580km south of Harare.

They were reportedly working on a story about unsanctioned migration between Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Police say the two had told the department of immigration that they were on holiday.

They have been charged with violating "Protected Areas and Places and Immigration Acts" .

The media in Zimbabwe is tightly-regulated and journalists are not allowed to work there without accreditation.
