IOC cross about TV advert set in Falklands

The International Olympic Committee has criticised an Argentine television advertisement linking the London Games to its dispute with Britain over the Falkland Islands.

The IOC says it regrets any attempt to use the Olympics to raise political issues.

The ad shows Argentine hockey captain Fernando Zylberberg training in the Falklands and reasserts Argentina's claim to the territory which Argentina claims as Las Malvinas.

The BBC reports the advert was broadcast in Argentina on Wednesday night.

It is titled Olympic Games 2012: Homage to the Fallen and the Veterans of the Malvinas.

Zylberberg is shown running and exercising in Port Stanley, interspersed with shots of penguins and the South Atlantic.

It ends with: "To compete on English soil we train on Argentine soil."
