A tornado in eastern Japan killed one person and injured at least 20 others on Sunday afternoon.
Houses were destroyed and power was cut to 20,000 households in the city of Tsukuba. The fatality was a boy, aged 14.
Television reports showed houses torn apart, overturned cars and toppled power poles. The incident happened at about 12.45pm.
Elsewhere in the region, there were strong winds, hail, lightning and heavy rain.
