Yahoo chief steps down

The chief executive of the internet giant Yahoo has stepped down, amid accusations of a fake computer science degree on his CV.

The Californian company says Scott Thompson has been replaced by Yahoo's global media head, Ross Levinsohn.

Yahoo has already acknowledged that Mr Thompson, who took up his post in January, does not have a computer science degree.

The company's fortunes have waned in recent years, and just last month Mr Thompson announced plans to make 2,000 employees or 14% per cent of the workforce redundant.
