Arrest in match fixing scandal

Police investigating a football match fixing scandal in Italy have arrested the captain of one of the country's leading clubs, Lazio in Rome.

A number of other people have been detained and the homes of players, trainers and administrators have been searched.

Juventus coach Antonio Conte, is among those being questioned.

Police said he was being investigated on suspicion of sporting fraud and fraudulent association over allegations concerning a match between his previous club Siena and Novara in April 2011.

The BBC reports five people were also arrested in Hungary on suspicion of being part of an illegal international betting ring. International criminal gangs are suspected of involvement.
