Football fans clash in Warsaw

10:50 am on 13 June 2012

Riot police in the Polish capital Warsaw used water cannon and tear gas as clashes broke out between Polish and Russian football fans attending their Euro 2012 match.

A march ahead of the match by thousands of Russian fans to mark their national day had to be halted and some missiles were thrown, the BBC reports.

Tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannon were used to disperse fans at the end of the march, according to Poland's state news agency.

Police say 100 arrests were made and at least 10 people were injured.

A heavy police presence was in evidence around the stadium after the match as further clashes broke out.

The match ended shortly in a 1-1 draw.
