Dead boat people brought to Christmas Island

The bodies of the dead from an asylum seeker boat disaster last Thursday are in a temporary morgue on Christmas Island.

One hundred and nine people were brought to the island on Friday by HMAS Wollongong.

The ABC reports 17 bodies have been found and about 90 - 100 are still missing.

Australian Federal Police are on the island to investigate the cause of the tragedy, which occurred in Indonesian waters.
