Cruise and Holmes to divorce

An attorney for Tom Cruise has confirmed that actress Katie Holmes has filed for divorce from her husband.

Attorney Bert Fields of Los Angeles said on Friday that Katie filed for divorce on Thursday and Cruise was very saddened.
Earlier on Friday, People magazine cited Holmes's lawyer, Jonathan Wolfe, as confirming the divorce.
The pair married in an elaborate ceremony in Italy in 2006. They have a daughter, Suri, age six.
Cruise, 49, was previously married to actress Mimi Rogers and actress Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two children.
Cruise is among the world's highest-paid actors, with films ranging from Risky Business (1983) to the Mission: Impossible series. He is currently in the musical Rock of Ages.
Holmes, 33, rose to fame on the Dawson's Creek television series and has worked in big-budget movies such as Batman Begins.
