Solo trekking ban mooted in Nepal

Updated at 6:14 am on 11 August 2012

Nepal is considering banning tourists from trekking on their own in the Himalayas after several disappearances and attacks.

A British tourist disappeared in April and a Belgian woman was found dead in June. There have also been a number of assaults and robberies.

There is already a requirement for groups to travel with a guide.

The government is proposing guidelines that all solo travellers must also be accompanied by at least one porter or guide.
