Security forces in Bahrain shot and killed a Shi'ite teenager when a group of protesters attacked police near the capital, Manama, late on Friday.
The Interior Ministry says a police unit stationed in a street in Muharaq came under attack from bombs.
The BNA news agency says security forces opened fire in self-defence, wounding one person who was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.
The Shi'ite opposition group, al-Wefaq, condemned the attack and posted pictures of Hussam al-Haddad, 16, on Facebook showing his wounds.
Crowds of men and women attended his funeral on Saturday afternoon, according to images posted by al-Wefaq.
