Yu Wenxia, 23, a music lover who wants to work with the poor, was awarded the title from 115 contestants.
"I love to smile and I like music," Yu said in a video posted on the pageant's website on Saturday.
The event was held at Ordos on the edge of the Gobi desert in Inner Mongolia.
Second place went to Sophie Moulds, 19, a business student from Wales and third place to Jessica Kahawaty, 23, a law student from Australia.
China won Miss World in 2007, when Zhang Zilin, a model, took the crown.
