Monsoon flooding in Myanmar

4:54 am on 26 August 2012

Floods in Myanmar have driven more than 80,000 people from their homes.

The Irrawaddy Delta - where 130,000 people died in a cyclone in 2008 - is the worst affected area.

The BBC reports unusually heavy monsoon rains have inundated around 250,000 hectares of rice fields.

The government says it has set up more than 200 emergency relief centres for those who have had to leave their homes.

Next year's rice harvest also expected to be significantly affected.
