Republican convention put back a day by Isaac

11:54 am on 26 August 2012

The Republican Party is delaying discussions at its national convention in Florida by a day because of the approach of Tropical Storm Isaac.

Isaac is expected to reach the Florida Keys on Sunday.

National committee chairman Reince Priebus announced the gathering would convene in Tampa on Monday and then would be immediately postponed until Tuesday afternoon.

The convention will formally nominate former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Congressman Paul Ryan as the party's 2012 presidential and vice presidential candidates in the election on 6 November.

The convention will bring 50,000 visitors to the Tampa-St. Petersburg area.
