Man in custody after counter-terrorism raids

A man is in custody following a series of counter-terrorism raids in Melbourne.

Victoria counter-terrorism officers searched properties in Narre Warren South, Craigieburn, Hallam, Officer, Springvale South and Noble Park on Wednesday.

The ABC reports a number of items were sized, including computer equipment, and imitation and registered firearms.

A man from Officer was taken into custody and is expected to be charged with collecting or making documents likely to facilitate terrorist acts.

The maximum penalty for the offence is 15 years in prison.

Assistant commissioner Steve Fontana said investigations were ongoing and there was no immediate threat to public safety.
