An Australian fantasy writer has won the short fiction category of the British Fantasy Awards.
The Coffin-Maker's Daughter by Angela Slatter of Brisbane was selected from a shortlist of 72 entries in May.
The ABC reports past nominees and winners include Stephen King, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.
"When I heard in May that I had been shortlisted that was actually quite enough for me, and then when I heard I had won I thought they had made a mistake," said Dr Slatter.
