A lightning storm has sparked a dozen new bushfires in western New South Wales as firefighters battle blazes there and in southern Queensland.
The NSW Rural Fire Service says the new fires are burning out of control in the region around Wilcannia and east of Broken Hill.
Spokeswoman Bridie O'Connor says a number of crews are responding to the new blazes but no properties are under threat at this stage.
She says a fire near Picton, south of Sydney, could pose a threat to around four properties.
In northern NSW there is a blaze still burning around the Macleay River region.
Ms O'Connor says it has already burnt through 20,000 hectares of bushland.
The ABC reports that in Queensland, soaring temperatures had been expected to exacerbate the fire threat.
Crews had been controlling a blaze at Laidley in the Lockyer Valley.
On the Western Downs rural firefighters are monitoring a number of fires which started late on Saturday by dry storms at Mitchell.
