UK scientist killed en route to WA conference

A British scientist was killed in a car crash in Western Australia soon after arriving there on Friday.

Police said Sean Barrett, 36, a doctor of quantum physics at Imperial College London, was hit by a stolen car while in a taxi from Perth airport. The driver of the taxi was also killed.

Dr Barrett was due to speak at a conference.

The BBC reports the driver of the other vehicle was arrested at the scene and charged with manslaughter.
