President Bashar al-Assad says he is open to any sincere solutions to the crisis in his country as long as Syrian sovereignty is respected.
After meeting UN / Arab league envoy Lakhdar Brahimi on Sunday, Mr Assad again refused foreign intervention.
He gave no answer on whether he would back a ceasefire for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha, which starts on Friday.
"We hope this Eid in Syria will be calm, even if it is not a happy Eid," said Mr Brahimi.
