Jetstar passengers unhappy at Shanghai diversion

Jetstar passengers aboard plane diverted to Shanghai last Friday for around three hours demanded that the flight continue on to its destination Beijing.

The A330-200 jet, bound for the Chinese capital from Melbourne via Singapore, was forced to land at Shanghai after heavy fog closed Beijing airport.

AAP reports the passengers were kept on the tarmac for a number of hours while immigration was being sorted out for the unscheduled arrival.

But when at last they were allowed into the terminal, the crew were ordered to take their mandatory break period because of the hours they had accrued during the trip.

AAP reports the passengers then turned on the captain and crew preventing them from leaving for three hours until they were guaranteed an onwards journey to Beijing.

Jetstar offered them day rooms at hotels while they tried to sort out further travel plans. Some passengers opted to take a train to Beijing and others flew on different airlines.

Jetstar told AAP that passengers were provided with onward travel from Shanghai to Beijing.
