UK soldiers killed at checkpoint

8:39 pm on 31 October 2012

Two British soldiers have been killed at a checkpoint in Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defence says they were shot dead by a man wearing a police uniform, the BBC reports.

The soldiers were both from 1st Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles. They were killed in Nahr-e Saraj in Helmand province, southern Afghanistan, on Tuesday.

At least 11 of the 43 British casulaties in Afghanistan this year were killed by Afghans they served alongside.

This compares to one in 2011, three in 2010 and five in 2009.
