Haiti on Sunday issued a new plea for international emergency aid to help deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

There are fears of food shortages after 70% of crops in southern Haiti were damaged on 24 October.

More than 50 people were killed in Haiti, which is still struggling to recover from the earthquake in 2010.

Aid workers and officials are also on alert for an increase in cholera cases in the wake of widespread flooding.

More than 7500 people have died in an epidemic since late 2010. The BBC reports hundreds of new cases are still being registered every week.
