Police officers killed in Kenya cattle ambush

6:15 pm on 11 November 2012

Suspected cattle rustlers in Kenya have shot dead at least seven policemen and wounded many more.

A police spokesperson in Rift Valley Province says the officers were ambushed by a militia from the Turkana ethnic community as they attempted to recover more than 400 head of cattle stolen in Samburu County in central Kenya.

The BBC reports attacks by cattle rustlers in the region are common, but such deadly use of force against the police is rare.
